Flyball is a relay sport that is always performed in a team of four dogs. It was first invented in Southern California in the late 1960s to early 1970s. The premise of flyball is as follows: Each dog in a team has to race over a hurdle course to release a tennis ball from a spring-loaded box and bring it back to the start without dropping the ball. As soon as the dog crosses the line the next dog is released until all dogs have returned their tennis ball. The fastest team wins the competition.

The flyball hall of fame is dominated by herding dogs, but all breeds and mixes can enter the competitions and many mixed teams do really well. The hurdle’s hight is in fact determined by the smallest dog’s height in the team. This makes mixed teams with dogs of different breeds and mixes very popular. Besides providing exercise and interaction for your Boston Terrier this sport is also great for making contacts with other dog lovers and enthusiasts.

Today flyball is a popular internationally recognized dog sport. It is especially common in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the European Union.
